In this issue of our newsletter we bring you news of a very special birthday party that was held for a trio of orphans from the Jodie O’Shea Orphanage and hosted by The Villas Bali in January this year. The three boys from Sumba were awestruck by the celebrations that were held in their honour. Adding to the drama of the event was the attendance of Australian TV actresses Michala Banas and Simone Buchanan from McLeod’s Daughters and Neighbours fame who treated the three birthday boys and a group of their friends to a day of swimming, party games and special treats.

We also welcome two new staff to The Villas Bali, maintenance man, Hari Susanto, and Amalia Achsan, our new Spa Sales Manager. We announce the winners of our bi-monthly raffle Mr. Yuji Sato, Japan and Mr. Sacha Sadan, UK who have won a two night stay at the villas. Congratulations and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Villas Bali, your own little slice of paradise on earth.

How long have you been working at The Villas?
I have been working for almost four years at The Villas Bali as a graphic designer.

You must really enjoy working here.
Yes, very much. I do what I love, and I love what I do.

Great saying! Did you study to become a graphic designer?
No, I actually studied mechanical engineering at the Udayana University, but graphic design has always been a hobby for me and it eventually became my job.

Where did you work before The Villas?
I was the head of the Multi Media Division at Multitec, a computer and IT company. But this was a while back, during my time at Udayana University.

What are your plans for the future?
I really enjoy what I am doing now, but I would be interested in forming an IT related company in the future so I can really stand on my own two feet. Or any company for that matter.

Would this be in Bali or in Java?
This could be anywhere, but Bali is a great place to live. I love the lifestyle and it’s very laid back.

We are pleased to introduce to you two new members of our work team new member of our maintenance staff, Hari Sumarsono, who joins us in the maintenance department and Amalia Achsan, our new Spa Sales Manager.

Hari joins The Villas Bali after working for a contracting company for several years where he worked as an electrician and he certainly knows his way around air conditioners and kitchen equipment making sure that you will never be too hot or going hungry. Amalia comes to us after several years working as Sales manager in several of Java and Bali’s 4- and 5-star resorts and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team.  We are very happy and honoured to welcome them both to The Villas Bali.

The Villas Bali Hotel & Spa was proud to host a special birthday celebration for three boys from the Jodie O’Shea Orphanage in January this year, on behalf of actresses Simone Buchanan and Michala Banas who made a special trip to Bali to visit the orphanage. The visit by Simone -the orphanage’s patron and star of the Australian drama Neighbours- and Michala -a New Zealander of McLeod’s Daughters fame- coincided with the birthdays of Nyong, 9, Dedy, 10, and Ade, 13. The actresses took time out to treat the three birthday boys and a group of their friends to a day of swimming, party games and special treats, and to donate gifts to the orphanage.

Their involvement helps to raise awareness for the orphanage’s work and will directly benefit the orphans’ families back in Sumba, with plans already underway to provide clean water in their villages. “One of the biggest problems these children’s families have is the lack of water in Sumba,” said Alison Chester, founder of the orphanage. “We are going to be putting wells in their villages and Simone is going to come back to support this program and to visit their families, which is a really important initiative.”
